About

Twinspace opened May 1st, 2009 by twins Elizabeth & Melissa Castaneda and a team of loving, supportive friends. Materials were donated from the deconstruction of the old ODC Theater, including its 30 year old maple dance floor! We’ve been growing ever since with the aim of spreading the love and life that is the performing arts.

Currently, we are between locations. Check back in for news and updates as we continue to build our future home!

Founding Members

Elizabeth & Melissa Castaneda: The super duo have been ballet lovers since their early years. The two ladies starting building their nest in San Francisco in 2005 in pursuit of dancing and creating!

Following her deep passion for classical ballet, Elizabeth is currently teaching ballet with ODC and the ODC School. Melissa is a non-stop clothing, costume, and accessory designer under the name of Knit by Heart.

The two are also part of the collaborative cabaret dance ensemble The Fossettes, attributed to the great Bob Fosse.

Ben Turner: Boy does Benny have a big heart! This warm blooded fellow has been a strong arm for the Twinspace. He’s a big contributor to renovation, electrical upgrades, and heavy lifting! He’s also been a contributor of comedic performances at events! As a multi-talented & imaginative artist, he’s always finding ways to make the space even greater! Benny also works on crew with Scene 2, digs deep in his personal study of Thai massage, & stretches it out with acroyoga.

Erin Kraemer: This hot mama has contributed bundles of goodies to Twinspace including graphics (logo design, flyers & this here site), studio maintenance, & event planning/participation. She dances with Charles Slender’s FACT/SF, and is also one of the fine ladies of The Fossettes.

Leslie Schickel: This goddess is one of the many supporting pillars of Twinspace. As a contributor since its inception, Leslie has helped facilitate morning dance classes  (including her own contemporary & Svaroopa Yoga classes), artist-in-residencies, & production of performances & community events promoting social justice and conscious living. Her biggest contribution, though, is playing the role of producer of the monthly Adaptogen Healing Arts Salon at Twinspace. Her legacy in the Bay Area includes being a founding member of SF contemporary dance company Kunst-stoff, and more recently, producer of Dessa Bones Women’s Expression Collective. She also teaches classical ballet at ODC training program and is a Master Trainer of Gyrotonic.

Hailey Gaiser: A long-time friend of the twins, this avid party partaker & imaginative artiste has been a prominent figure in Twinspace’s life. She has helped facilitate many of the events, and is a frequent go-to gal for many needs.

Locust: You know that amazing mural you see when you enter Twinspace? You can thank this guy for that! Locust is a dear friend of the twins and the space. He’s been adding color to the walls since its opening, and has a growing collection of his own creations. He’s a definite artist to keep your eyes on.

Risa P Rizzle: This ball of energy & ideas has been a decorative dream for Twinspace. Risa has been a huge contributor to all things fabricated. She plays a main part in the renewal of the May Pole streamers every year. Risa is a self-made designer of fun-filled apparel & goods…emphasis on the “fun.”
